This study compares Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the newer state forest certification program, the Mexican Forest Certification System (MFCS) to find out whether the non-state market driven certification provided by FSC improves forest management practices in Mexico, whether the MFCS and market access for community forest enterprise processes achieves similar or sufficient sustainable forest management practices and community benefits, whether the MFCS helps move forest landowners toward full FSC forest certification and if the government and MFCS can improve their delivery of the system.
