This paper employs a case-study approach to describe the pathways to FSC certification followed by five recently certified concessions in Kalimantan, Indonesia. It illustrates what kinds of on-the-ground improvements were required for the concessions to receive FSC certification. It also compares the requirements of FSC with those of government to highlight overlaps, conflicts, and potential synergies.
