In 2010, Solidaridad and UTZ Certified (UTZ) decided to evaluate the effectiveness of their activities and the impact of the implementation of the UTZ-Solidaridad programme on smallholder tea producers in Kenya. LEI Wageningen UR was commissioned by UTZ and Solidaridad to carry out the evaluation of the UTZSolidaridad smallholder tea programme. The evaluation was conducted through the delivery of two studies: a baseline study at the start of the UTZ-Solidaridad programme in 2010 and a mid-term evaluation after the programme had been running for two years (2012).
This report presents the findings from the mid-term evaluation with regard to  i) the effectiveness and the appropriateness and relevance of the UTZ Solidaridad tea programme in Kenya and  ii) lessons learnt and recommendations for the current programme and other future programmes.
